A warning of things to come |
Chris struggling up the first steep hill of the day |
Suddenly my cycling guest appeared to be on a walking holiday |
.
After a few more lesser hills and some more bike pushing from my guests, we made it to the flat section and our first stop for the day; Cacau Brazilian Patisserie.

Impressive looking cakes |
Very rich cakes |
We left our weekend cycling guests mending their puncture |
Finishing getting through Middlesborough |
Apparently this didn't count as fun |
The lookout cafe Seaham |
View from the lookout Seaham |
Well the cake selection was average, the cakes quite nice but my hot chocolate was just a Cadbury one and Chris's Mocha only ok so it just goes to show that a good sea view doesn't add up to a great cafe. Point proved methinks.
Despite great view cakes and drinks were a bit disappointing |
Cafe provided blankets for the more hardy customer |
In strop mode |
Fortunately soon after this we hit Sunderland and tarmac to ride on. We went past Sunderland marina (who'd have thought) before making it to the seafront.

If you would like to encourage Chris to keep going all the way to St Andrews then you can make a donation at her World Bicycle Relief page where you can also find out more about the charities great work in Africa.
